We’re excited to soon be launching the Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge (#WavumbuziRW) in Rwanda.

Ahead of its launch, we’ve shared some key aspects of this initiative to prepare you for what we have in store.

WHY #WAVUMBUZI#RW?
Because the world is changing. The world in 2030 will look significantly different from what we know today. Experts predict that 20 – 30% of jobs globally will be ‘displaced in 10 years as technology, automation and artificial intelligence transforms the way we work, the way we think, and the way we learn.

In collaboration with parents, alumni and the wider school community, our educators have the single greatest influence on how young people across Rwanda view the world. We intend to form a community of next-generation educators across the country, equip them with 21st-century learning tools, and challenge them to prepare our young people for success in Rwanda’s dynamic future global marketplace.

WHAT MAKES #WAVUMBUZIRW DIFFERENT?
#WavumbuziRW uses a series of micro-challenges to expose learners to useful entrepreneurial mindsets and concepts, which are then applied within a variety of real-world scenarios.

It focuses on developing entrepreneurial mindsets and beliefs, which are key drivers of behaviour change. In partnership with local entrepreneurs, the Wavumbuzi curriculum is contextualised to be personally relevant and to align with the daily context of local learners. The focus is on linking key entrepreneurial mindsets to practical experiences.

Building on the foundations of Rwanda’s existing competence-based curriculum in entrepreneurship, the Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge starts learners on a journey to develop the five pervasive entrepreneurial mindsets – drive, resilience, self-efficacy, initiative and innovative thinking that will equip them for success as they enter the future global job market.

Innovative Thinking
Constantly spots opportunities and generates multiple novel solutions, while challenging conventional ways of thinking.

Resilience
Views difficult situations (and failures) as part of the path to mastery. Willing to try again and again to achieve success.

Personal Initiative
Action Orientation. Proactively and independently takes decisive action.

Spirit of Significance
Confident in own ability to influence change. (Self-efficacy) Displays empathy cares about the needs of others and of the broader community.

Achievement Excellence / Drive
Sets goals and stays focused until they’re achieved. Plans and executes well.
