Nurturing The Next Generation Of African Entrepreneurs.
About Wavumbuzi
Launched in 2019 in partnership with the Ministries of Education in Kenya and Rwanda, Wavumbuzi is an entrepreneurship education programme for secondary school learners. It builds the competencies and confidence learners need to spot opportunities and solve real problems in their own communities.
Every year, learners spend six weeks on a dedicated digital platform, working through structured challenges called Quests. Previous Quest themes include Artificial Intelligence (AI), African Trade, Health, Resilience, Renewable Energy, and Smart Cities.
So far: 254,756 learners engaged, 8,000+ teachers trained, 3,200+ schools onboarded, and 100+ case studies of African innovation featured.

Our Approach
The Wavumbuzi implementation model connects policy, teaching, and practice.

National Curriculum Aligned
Wavumbuzi is built into Kenya’s and Rwanda’s Competency-Based Curricula, not an add-on but a recognised part of how schools deliver entrepreneurship education.

Gamified Learning
Learners work through the Wavumbuzi Gameworld, a digital platform where they complete tasks and unlock levels as they build competency.

Industry Quests
No theoretical business plans. Learners work through real African industries, guided by real stories of African innovation that show them what success can look like in their own context.
Wavumbuzi Quests
Each year, learners take on a series of themed “Quests”, the building blocks of the Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge. Each Quest is a set of structured, practical challenges set in a specific industry or sector, told through stories of African innovation.
Quests are carefully chosen to be compelling for secondary school learners while aligning with:

THE UN-SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)

NATIONAL EDUCATION PRIORITIES IN KENYA AND RWANDA

KEY CHALLENGES FACING AFRICAN COMMUNITIES AND ECONOMIES
Through completing Quests, learners earn points, unlock badges, climb leaderboards, and, most importantly, develop the entrepreneurial competencies they need to create value in the real world. To date, learners across Kenya and Rwanda have completed over 10 million entrepreneurial competency and practice-based challenges.

What Our Partners Say
"The idea behind the Wavumbuzi Entrepreneurship Challenge should be our motivation factor - that we are giving learners an opportunity to discover their potential at an early age. As a country, we all know where we are - we have our children who have finished their degrees and we are with them in the house because there is no employment. We want to nurture a generation with the skills to hustle, a generation with ideas to go out and implement. Through Wavumbuzi we are going to provoke the learner's minds embracing the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in all aspects."
